Girls Aloud at Elton Hall

THE spectacular visit of the most successful UK girl band of the last five years is just days away.
Record-breaking pop superstars Girls Aloud will be performing in the lush grounds of the majestic Elton Hall next Saturday (August 16). After four albums, Girls Aloud have beaten the record set by the Spice Girls for the most consecutive Top 10 singles – a staggering 18, including three number ones. The girl group will play one of the hottest summer concerts in the region, finishing with a fantastic firework finale. It promises to be a busy day for the quintet, as they are also on the bill for the Staffordshire leg of the V Festival earlier in the afternoon. But the girls, Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, will be fully charged to perform in front of their army of fans, both young and old, at the picturesque hall, in the village just outside of Peterborough. Tickets are still available for the show, with gates opening at 5pm, and performances following from 7.30pm. Thousands are expected to turn up to enjoy the evening's entertainment, which also features support slots from Natalia, Leo and hotly-tipped girl band The Saturdays. Events manager of concert promoters IML Chris Bailey, said: "We are delighted to have secured the girls for one of the very few outdoor dates they are playing this summer. "Elton Hall is a picturesque setting for a picnic-style show, and I know that the fans will have a great time there." Discounted tickets are available for youngsters under 12, and under-fives will get in for free. Chris added: "Over the past nine years of organising shows around the UK, we have found a growing number of children attending our concerts, and hope that the reduced prices will encourage more families to join us." Girls Aloud were formed in November 2002 after winning the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals. The following month they released their debut single, Sound Of The Underground, which reached Number 1 in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. Expect Girls Aloud to dress to impress next week, as they belt out hit after hit, including Love Machine and Something Kinda Ooooh. Young soul singer Natalia has already supported Girls Aloud on a number of UK dates this year. She said: "I respect them so much for what they've achieved, and so meeting them was really exciting." Natalia first began to attract attention from the music industry during a momentary spell in girl band Pussy Katz, when she was introduced to top producer K Warren. Her songs soon littered the top echelons of the mySpace unsigned chart during 2007, and her debut album, All Of Me, is out at the turn of the year. The Saturdays have also played concerts with Girls Aloud this summer. But the five girls, Mollie, Vanessa, Rochelle, Una and Frankie, say they are much more than a copycat act, with latest single, If This Is Love, showing tinges of The Pussycat Dolls and Rihanna.
