Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding shares her Barbados good stuff

Now this looks like a relaxing day on the beach – Sarah plays chess with her boyfriend Tom Crane in Barbados.

And she’s such a sweetie that’s she come back from her holidays and answered a few questions on all the good stuff that she loves, from pamper days to Kate Moss to facebook, happy reading.
Tell us about your recent holiday in Barbados – we’ve seen the photos but what’s it really like?

Sun, sea, sand, romance and friendship. This has been the perfect getaway. The House hotel where we were staying had the best service I’ve ever encountered and the staff catered to every need. Barbados is a great place to relax but also if you want to party and enjoy the Bajan hospitality, then going out in the evening is a must. There are colorful boutiques, flamboyant characters, delicious restaurants and breathtaking views.

Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud has recently been making a splash in the press as she’s been sunning herself in Barbados with a few close friends. She’s taken some time out to chat to us about her good stuff and also answer questions from some of our friends and followers on facebook and twitter.
Sarah, what’s your favourite West End theatre show?Wicked. I went with Kimberley and Caprice to see the show and I absolutely loved it. I’d love to see Les Misérables and I feel very guilty about the fact I haven’t seen it. The other two I want to see are Dirty Dancing and We Will Rock You.
Do you enjoy having a pamper at spas?
Yes, it’s one of my guilty pleasures. I like to go on my own or with a group of girls. One of my favorites is The Grove in Hertfordshire and I really want to go to the Royal Day Spa in Tunbridge Wells. I love having a massage and facials are great.
What’s your perfect weekend get away?
I love going on weekend breaks especially to Venice and Paris – which I think is the most romantic break in the world! Somewhere I would really like to go is the Lake District as I hear it’s absolutely beautiful.
Where do you like to eat out?
Obviously I would have to say Kanaloa – my nightclub I run with my boyfriend, Tom Crane. But I’m also a big fan of Gilgamesh, Automat and Scotts.

We know you love to go out but how social are you – do you blog, tweet and facebook?
I facebook – it’s a great way to keep connected with my friends. When I was on tour, I used it a lot to meet up with people in the areas we were performing. I’m thinking of having a blog but I might leave that to my boyfriend, Tom Crane!
And we have a few questions from fabulous fans on facebook and twitter…
Who is you favourite / best dressed celebrity and why?
Kate Moss – she’s cool and can pull off casual and glamorous. She’s like a chameleon – stylish and sexy. I also really admire Gwen Stefani’s look.
Where is your favourite lastminute.com destination and why?
Well I have to say here at The House hotel. It’s the first time I’ve used lastminute.com , but it certainly wont be the last – excuse the pun!
What projects have you got coming up this year?
I’m working on a couple of movies, writing some solo music and also concentrating on breeding my dog and finishing off my new home in the country.
Of all the places you have been what’s your favourite and why?
I love the Maldives for the sea and the snorkelling and of course the sun.

Sarah Harding's Barbados break has turned into something of a fashion parade, and her latest beach outing proved no exception.
The Girls Aloud star stepped out to the sand in a pair of tiny denim hotpants and a bright peach bikini top.
She teamed the look with white sunglasses and sandals, as well as a headscarf to keep her blonde mane in place.

It's the latest in a string of eye-catching outfits she's worn on the Caribbean getaway, including a range of two piece bikinis and cut-away swimsuits.
Sarah, 28, is holidaying with DJ boyfriend Tom Crane and a group of friends.
There are renewed rumours the couple are planning to wed.
'Tom wants to pop the question to Sarah,' a source told the News of the World. 'It's only a matter of time before they get engaged. Expect a big announcement very soon.'
The pair began dating in June 2007 following her split from showbiz journalist Joe Mott.
The announced the relationship was over in June 2008 citing the pressures of work, but reignited their romance just a week later.

A week into her Barbados break and Sarah Harding is still pulling some stunning beachwear out the bag.
And yesterday was no exception as she showed off her amazing figure in a sexy cut-away silver swimsuit.
The Girls Aloud star, who is holidaying with boyfriend Tom Crane and a group of friends, took to the beach for a spot of sunbathing and frolics in the sea.

At one point, however, the 28-year-old was taken by surprise when she was drenched by a wave while she lay on the sand reading a book.
The singer swiftly rolled onto her front and attempted to hoist herself up whilst trying to keep her already dog-eared book from getting soaked.
Her DJ lover Tom also found time to get to grips with Sarah and was spotted cheekily twanging the strap attaching the two parts of her swimsuit.

Later, the love-struck pair ventured into the sea together after Sarah had rubbed sun cream into his back.
They arrived in the Caribbean last weekend, with Sarah bringing plenty of swimsuits and bikinis with her to wear throughout the break.
Earlier in the week she was spotted looking a little sunburnt - but yesterday the star made sure she applied plenty of high factor sun cream.

The Girls Aloud siren 28, let rip in Barbados during a boozy night out after getting spannered in a posh restaurant.
After knocking back too many bottles of Piper Heidsieck champagne, the sexy liquid guzzler started singing really loudly at her table, much to the disgust of the toffee-nosed diners around her.
Our Caribbean source said: “Sarah was on fire. She was having a right laugh with her mates and boyfriend Tommy."
“They were drinking copious bottles of champagne when suddenly Sarah started getting rowdy singing 4 Non Blondes really loudly at her table."
“They were in Lexy Piano Bar and most of the posh clientele looked surprised by Sarah’s drunken singing.”
Oh, come on, booze and singing go hand in hand.
But our spy added: “By the end of the night, Sarah had everyone up dancing and doing karaoke classics. For an hour the whole Japanese restaurant erupted into song. The diners were belting out classics like Mustang Sally and Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight.”

A happy Tom even appears to point with laughter at burn marks as the couple happily enjoy their holiday, which began in the early hours of last Sunday.
The couple have had an enjoyable break away with friends and were often seen out partying and recovering the next day with a glass of champagne and a kip on the sun loungers.
Throughout her break she seems to have changed outfits regularly with pictures of her in different swimsuits emerging constantly.
Girls Aloud took a break last year as several of the members pursued solo projects. Harding played the leading role of Roxy in St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold and has appeared in independent film Bad Day and the BBC drama Freefall. She has been concentrating on her acting career as well as singing.
The holiday started out as it continued with Harding partying until 3am in Kanaloa bar in London, catching a flight just hours later to the islands.

She was always the hardest-partying member of Girls Aloud.
But recently Sarah Harding has been living a slightly quieter life as she concentrated on her boyfriend, DJ Tom Crane, and her acting career.
Now it seems she has thrown herself back into the swing of things as she holidays on Barbados.

The 28-year-old flew out for a luxurious break with her boyfriend and a select group of friends on Sunday.
Just hours before that she was spotted looking a little sleepy in the back of a after partying at a London club.
It didn't take long for her to get into the holiday spirit, drinking champagne on the beach today with Tom, playing in the sea and relaxing on sun loungers.
The singer wore an on-trend cut away swimsuit and a black sarong as she signalled to her friends to come and join her - and sip champagne.

And she looked a little more lively than the day she arrived - then she had relaxed on the beach and enjoyed the late afternoon sun.
It appears that she needs the break after she fell asleep in a taxi on the way home after a night out on Saturday, and looked like she had forgotten how to party.
The singer was looking more dishevelled as she left the club than she has done for some months.
She has begun to favour the quiet life recently, preferring to put her feet up at home rather than dancing on the tables.

Its going to be a lot different from what people expect, she told OK magazine. The songs i did for the St Trinians album are very Girls Aloud but ive been working on songs that are really different. Sarah Harding braves the cold in skimpy outfit

The 28-year-old singer and actress didn't care about the cold when she stepped out in a little black pantsuit on a night out in London.
The Girls Aloud star surprised onlookers by appearing reasonably sober as she left Kanaloa bar at around 4am.
She is normally known as the wild one from the band but sported a fresh face and fancy new hair-do while out with her DJ boyfriend Tom Crane.
Harding must be reinventing her image after landing some film success in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold and BBC drama Freefall.
We're all for Sarah's sophisticated new look but next time she might want to take a coat when it's below freezing.

TOP caner SARAH HARDING has been oddly quiet since New Year - but I knew the GIRLS ALOUD singer could not avoid the bars for long.
The skinny star broke cover for a night out with DJ fella TOM CRANE at her London club Kanaloa.
And she made up for her absence by partying until 4am with SUGABABE AMELLE BERRABAH.
I hope they both lined their stomachs with plenty of chip butties beforehand.

Sarah Harding used to have the tag of being the wild one of Girls Aloud and was notorious for enjoying a good night out on the town.
But it appears that with a break from the band and a budding new acting career, she is keeping more to the straight and narrow.
Harding, 28, was out in London again last night as she and boyfriend DJ Tom Crane enjoyed some time together at Kanaloa.
Gone are the days when she would have been stumbling after a heavy night out and poured into a taxi.
Instead, she looked just as chic when she left the club at 3.50am as when she arrived earlier in the evening.

Dressed in a sleek black, halter-necked pantsuit and holding a bright red retro clutch, she looked more like the screen siren she hopes to become.
Only her hair looked slightly unkempt - although it was tied back, fronds of her fringe were escaping at the front to cover her face.
With a slick of bright red lipstick, she beamed as she left the club with one passer-by remarking she looked 'as fresh as a daisy'.
Despite the cool weather, Harding braved the temperatures to step out without a coat or as much as a scarf to keep the cold at bay.

The sighting adds weight to the perception that Sarah is ditching her ladette days as she continues her bid to make it as an actress.
While Girls Aloud took a break last year, Miss Harding played the leading role of Roxy in St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold.
She has also appeared in independent film Bad Day and the BBC drama Freefall.

It's The Smiths v Girls Aloud

A SHOWDOWN is brewing between Manchester legends The Smiths and pop superstars Girls Aloud.
Fans of both acts are battling it out on social networking website Facebook to get them to number one in the second week of February.
Girls Aloud fans want the group’s single Untouchable to top the charts. The song, which was released in April last year, was the group’s only single not to top the charts.
But a Smiths tribute band, The Smiths Indeed, have started a rival campaign to give the Mancunian band their first ever British number one on the 25th anniversary of one of their most successful records. The tribute act want How Soon Is Now to reach number one to celebrate the February 1985 release of Meat Is Murder, the band’s most successful album.
The group backing Girls Aloud is more than twice as big, with 7,333 fans.
But The Smiths group was only launched on Tuesday and has so far attracted 3,127 members – nearly 1,000 a day.
The campaign has been backed by ex-Smiths drummer Mike Joyce.

The Smiths Indeed lead singer Jurgen Wendelen, 32, said he thought The Smiths’ chances against Girls Aloud were ‘very good.’
Liverpool-based Mr Wendelen said: "I don’t rate Girls Aloud’s music at all.
"It is manufactured – it doesn’t come from anywhere, it doesn’t say anything. If anyone deserves a UK number one it is The Smiths.
"Their contribution to British culture is outstanding.
"The Smiths’ music was created out of a need to say something real through music and that is what we need now in the charts."
How Soon Is Now is considered by many to be the band’s best song, but was released as a B-side and never reached number one.
Mr Wendelen said: "It would be fantastic to get it to number one to celebrate the Smiths and their enormous impact on music."
The Smiths formed in Manchester in 1982 but never released a single that charted higher than at number 10 in Britain.
The top spot will go to the single bought or downloaded the most times between January 31 and February 6.

We were lucky enough to create bespoke corseted outfits for not one but all five of the girls for their recent Out of Control tour. Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud wore hand fringed bespoke corsets and mini skirts in an array of beautiful pastel shades all handmade by the Eternal Spirits team in Nottingham. The outfits were not only used for the tour but also in a stunning photoshoot which was used over 5 full pages in the tour programme. The girls are now big fans of Eternal Spirits corsets!!

An Untouchable Single

Girls Aloud. The UK's hottest selling girl band that banded back in 2002 and have had 20 Top 10 singles, broke records with their selling singles and albums. Their last single, the trancey-mid-90s dance track "Untouchable" topped at only number 11 on the UK music charts, making this single their only non Top 10 single to date.So now fans are gathering, nearly a year since the single's been released, to have fans re-download or purchase their single so that "Untouchable" will be their 21st Top 10, keeping the cycle going. Girls Aloud fans launch top ten campaign

Girls Aloud fans have launched an online campaign to restore the group's record-breaking chart run.
'Untouchable' - the five-piece's last single before embarking on solo projects - stalled at number eleven in May, becoming the first of their 21 singles to miss out on a top ten placing.
However, fans of the girlband have now set up a Rage Against The Machine-style Facebook group to correct the blemish.
"The objective is to get 'Untouchable' back on the top 10," the campaign's organisers explained. "To do this, we are going to choose a specific week when we will proceed to download the song and/or its remixes from any download site that count towards the chart."
However, they urged fellow fans not to act too hastily in showing their support, adding: "DON'T start downloading the song until we choose the week. If you download it now it won't have any effect. We all need to download the song at once on the same week."
US rockers Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry to the top of this year's Christmas singles chart after an anti-X Factor Facebook group was launched.

However, it seems last night the redhead swapped roles with former party-girl bandmate Sarah Harding.
Roberts, 24, appeared worse for wear as she celebrated New Year’s Eve with boyfriend Charlie Fennell.

In contrast, Harding, 28, who was renowned for her party-girl reputation, looked stunning in a backless, long black dress and cobra-snake necklace, as she arrived at Gilgamesh in Camden.

She was partying at a celebrity-filled event, which was also attended by former Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, who arrived alone.
Harding posed for the cameras, holding a gold clutch bag and sporting bright red lipstick, looking composed and relaxed.

However, bandmate Roberts was seen being steadied by Dubai-born Fennell, also 24, with his arm around her waist and a drink in the other hand as they danced at the exclusive May Fair hotel in the West End.
Roberts, who has recently launched her own make-up range for pale-skinned girls, appeared bleary-eyed at around 1.30am this morning.

Wearing a black dress, a small pearl necklace and red nail varnish, Roberts looked dishevelled – in stark contrast to her normally immaculate appearance.
And it seemed Fennell also dressed down for the occasion – donning jeans and a black jacket to see in the new decade.

Girls Aloud to The TopBecause Top 10 records are UntouchableOn 3 May 2009, Girls Aloud last single before the break, an epic dance track called Untouchable from their album Out Of Control failed to enter the top 10 and reached number 11 on the Official UK charts. Till then, the band had managed to get all their singles into the top 10, holding the record of most consecutive top 10 in the story of girlbands. This single, however, broke the path.
The single the label had originally planed to release as the single was Rolling Back The Rivers in Time, but thanks to popular demand from fans, Untouchable was choosen instead. Some think that the single didn't get enough promotion and some think it was not the right track to release. However it may have been, fans played a part on it by choosing it as the single, and now fans want to recover that top 10 record by getting the song to the place it should have been: the top of the charts. But for that, we need your help.

The Plan
The objective is to get Untouchable back on the top 10. To do this, we are going to choose a specific week when we will proceed to download the song and/or its remixes from any download site that count towards the chart.

The groundbreaking sci-fi movie has scored the third biggest opening in Britain and Ireland of 2009 after The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
The weekend's (19-20Dec09) second spot was claimed by St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold with $2.5 million (£1.6 million), followed by Jim Carrey's animated tale A Christmas Carol in third place with £1.6 million (£1 million).
Nativity! and Planet 51 round out the top five, pulling in revenues of $924,000 (£578,000) and $721,000 (£451,000) respectively.

How Much Longer Do Girls Aloud Have?

As their last single 'Untouchable' charts disappointingly concerns grow that perhaps the girls hang up their lycra and make way for fresh new artist.
Once the UK's biggest girl group, Girls Aloud's last single failed to reach the top 10, entering the charts at number 54 and peaking at number 11, a first for the girls and their worst chart position to date. With new, younger, fresher girl bands coming out of the woodwork has Girls Aloud finally had their 8 year reign of the charts come to an end?
The five beauties first shot to fame in Popstarts: The Rivals back in 2002 and since then they have continued to produce hit after hit, that is until now of course. Not that charting outside of the top 10 is a disappointing chart position, but when you are use to maintaining a certain level of success it must come as a bit of a shock when those sales figures start slipping.
The Saturdays, dubbed the new Girls Aloud have enjoyed chart success in the short time they have been together, deflecting away from Girls Aloud somewhat. Perhaps the public are getting tired of the same old sounds of which all Girls Aloud records seem to have and are beginning to look elsewhere for their pop fix such as Lady GaGa and Taylor Swift.
Hits such as 'Sound Of The Underground' and 'The Promise' have been a favourite of pop fans for years but it's the fresh new sounds coming from Cheryl Cole that us beginning to make us wonder that maybe they would better off pusuing their solo careers. Sarah Harding has taken to acting and Nicola Roberts seems to have a passion for fashion so maybe its high time to make way for new talent and for the girls to concentrate on their own solo projects.

Sarah Harding has caught the acting bug after starring in the 'St Trinian's' sequel - but what she really wants in the future is action roles.
Discussing her current film 'St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold', the Girls Aloud star said of her character: "I play Roxy and she's like a more laid-back version of me.

Curled up on a battered old sofa in a white-walled office at Ealing Studios, Sarah Harding is waiting to be summoned to resume work on her new career as an actress.
It is her new passion, although, as she would be the first to admit, her role in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold hasn’t exactly meant that much of a transformation.
“I play Roxy and she’s like a more laid-back version of me,” she says in an accent that’s a hybrid of Manchester and Home Counties. “She’s like an indie rock chick, but maybe a bit cooler and calmer than I am.”
A movie aimed squarely at the schoolgirls who buy her records is an astute or cynical piece of casting, perhaps both, depending on your point of view, and it helps when it comes to marketing a movie. But it says much for Harding that her role has been expanded from a cameo in the 2007 St Trinian’s – the film that reinvented a British comedy franchise which dates back more than half a century – and that she’s sharing the screen with the likes of David Tennant and Rupert Everett. It’s a laugh, says Harding, but she’s taking it seriously.

“I need to work on my skills, that’s the priority,” she says. “I’d love to do some action stuff. I’d be a good Brigitte Nielsen kind of baddie. Or maybe the kind of character that Grace Jones played in A View to a Kill. A bad Bond girl. I don’t see myself doing the glamour stuff. I’m kind of edgier.”

Kind of doesn’t come into it. Her striking looks and cropped blonde hair are in sharp contrast to the more girlie femininity of Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Cole. Sarah’s the one with attitude, the southern girl who moved up north with her mum when her dad started an affair with a woman not much older than his daughter. Sarah is the caner, the one who’s papped strutting out of nightclubs in cross-
me-if-you-dare outfits that have young men walking into lamp posts. No wonder that apart from the movie career and her part in one of the most successful girl bands of all time, she’s entered into a partnership with Piers Adam, owner of Mahiki bar in Mayfair, to open a nightclub in Fleet Street.
For all the front, though, the back story is showbiz, but not nearly as brazen as the outfits suggest. There’s the steady boyfriend of three years in the form of DJ Tom Crane, a new house in Buckinghamshire and the steely commitment to a career forged in a teenage life of part-time jobs and gigs in back-street bars.
Though today Harding, 28, is wearing an understated grey ensemble of baggy hooded sweatshirt and skirt, with her tanned legs curled beneath her, you sense that, were she
to whip off what she calls her “comfy outfit”, there’d be a sequined frock underneath. She points out that she has been in a constant state of readiness for the spotlight almost since she was born. “I grafted, I really did,” she says. She spent years driving her old Ford Escort from one gig to the next, mostly playing clubs or caravan parks for little more than forty quid a night, belting out standards like I Need a Hero. “It was demeaning at times, but it was my apprenticeship,” she says. Her income was supplemented with a series of dead-end jobs.
“I was a barmaid, a hairdresser, I was a pizza delivery girl. I even worked in a car park once. But I was always singing at night and I’d have my head in the karaoke songbook, learning the words. And I always had it in my heart that I would be in London one day if I was going to make it on a serious level.”

Then out of the blue came ITV’s Popstars: the Rivals in 2002. Presented by Davina McCall, the programme created two groups – one boy band, one girl band – out of 40 wannabes who had never met before. Each week they would perform and then be ejected or voted to stay on, leaving five boys and five girls to be moulded into two rival outfits who would compete for the Christmas No 1 spot. It was a bear-pit talent contest that set the template for The X Factor.
Harding, along with Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, became Girls Aloud and they beat One True Voice to the prize with their first single, Sound of the Underground, going straight to the top of the charts. For Harding, it was fate taking a decisive hand. She was in the right place at the right time.
Seven years on, Girls Aloud have five albums to their name, a string of hit singles, sell-out arena tours, Brit Awards and, crucially, they have gained the kind of street credibility that acts emerging from a talent show can only dream of. Arctic Monkeys covered Love Machine, the Pet Shop Boys gave them a song (The Loving Kind) and Coldplay asked them to open their two Wembley shows in September.
The Coldplay gigs were the first time that the girls had been together for months and rumours had been circulating that a split was imminent. After all, Cheryl Cole has become a national treasure as a judge on X Factor and just enjoyed a number-one solo hit; the others too are pursuing their independent careers.

Maybe there’s a tinge of jealousy when she looks on as Cheryl Cole becomes something close to a national obsession? “No way. We’re all really supportive of each other,” says Harding, who’s recorded three songs for the St Trinian’s soundtrack. “I was on the phone telling her well done when she went to number one. I’m proud of her, man. We all took this break and you don’t do that without having an action plan. And that’s what Cheryl’s plan was. Nadine’s got her solo stuff taking off soon and Nicola is doing her make-up range and Kimberley is doing her acting and presenting.

“I know they keep saying that we’re going to split, but we’re not. We’ve been on the treadmill for so long and we just need time to do other things in our lives. We aren’t getting any younger, and it gets tedious doing the same things year in and year out. We want to see what else is out there. We have a bond, but there are times when you are like, ‘Oh no, I just can’t sit in a room with everyone gabbing on.’ Sometimes you just want to pull yourself away and have a bit of peace. But at the end of the day, we stand as a unit and we know where our bread is buttered.”
The dark side of fame
The flip side of that is seven years as a fixture in the gossip pages – and on the net, where alongside footage of Harding singing there are video clips of her looking the worse for wear as she is stalked by a crew of paparazzi. She’s discovered that life in the public eye can hurt you and those around you.
“I didn’t really know what fame was before I got into it and I didn’t expect everything to be so intense. I don’t like fame, I like performing.
“For St Trinian’s we were doing a scene at Liverpool Street station and that was hard for me because there was nowhere to escape from the public glare. There were camera phones in my face every two minutes, people coming up between takes, sometimes during takes, trying to get an autograph. The place was full of paparazzi too, trying to get pictures of me in these hotpants I was wearing for the scene.
“I went to get a sandwich from M&S and I looked round and the window was covered with big lenses. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. I was freaking out, going, ‘Oh my God, I can’t handle this.’ There are some days you take it in your stride and others where you don’t.
“I can totally see why people like Britney Spears and Mariah Carey lost the plot because you can’t live a normal life. Like yesterday, we were filming in a public place again and I was walking with these two big bodyguards either side of me and I feel like a bloody prima donna. And the public are all around and I feel like they look at me and go, ‘You ain’t all that, love. Why have you got security?’

But I didn’t ask for that. All I wanted was to go and get my lunch like everybody else.”
Fame has also brought her estranged father, the musician John Hardman (she decided on the stage name Harding instead, and says that’s who she now feels she is), back into the picture.
Hardman separated from her mother, Marie, when Sarah was a teenager. Mother and daughter moved back from Staines, Surrey, where she grew up, to Stockport in her mother’s native North West. She hadn’t spoken to him for eight years when he gave an interview detailing his side of the story in 2002.
Her father claimed that he tried to keep in touch with his daughter but that she sided with her mother and brushed aside any contact. He hadn’t seen her for two years when he switched on the television and saw her auditioning on Popstars and then tried to contact her again.

He was only interested in building a relationship with his daughter, but his attempts at reconciliation had been rebuked, he claimed, saying: “Some people seem to think that the only reason I have tried to make contact is because she is famous. I don’t want her money. I want nothing but a connection with my daughter.”

Harding is having none of it. “After he and my mother divorced, he just wasn’t a nice person. I know there are always two sides to a story, but what’s done is done and things happened that I can’t forgive. A lot of things have come out and I’ll never forgive him for that. And now he’s selling stories on me and saying, ‘I’m not in it for the money, I just want my daughter back.’ As far as I’m concerned he’s dead to me.
“I know it’s harsh, but I have no place in my life for someone like that. I came close to being in contact with him again, but after the recent few things that he’s done, talking to the press and trying to sell pictures of me as a child, things like that, I just thought, ‘You don’t want me, you just want the glory, the money and whatever comes with it.’ He’s a very selfish person. As far as I’m concerned he’s not a part of my life and my mum is. As well as my mum, I have my friends and I have Tommy. Those are the people that I trust.”
Securing the future
She and Tom Crane divide their time between a house she bought in Buckinghamshire a year ago and her apartment in Camden, while Crane is on the look-out for a new “crash pad” somewhere near the City of London, where their latest venture as part of a consortium with Piers Adam and Nick House, a nightclub called Kanaloa, opened a few weeks ago. She helped design the interior, had input into the menu and will be a frequent visitor, especially as Crane will be playing there. Perfect for a party girl who likes a drink or two.
“It doesn’t mean I’m there to party,” she insists. “It’s a business venture.
“I’m very much into investing, putting money into bricks and mortar. You have to think about the future, and I’m not ready to settle down properly until I’m financially secure and have paid off my mortgage and everything else. Hopefully we’re going to have more clubs opening over the next three years.”
Harding is a curious mix of vulnerability and toughness. One minute she’s talking of a picture-book domestic life (babies and a barn conversion) and the next detailing plans for a string of nightclubs. She mentions that she already feels old in the pop business, and the same ambition that set her on her route to stardom is apparent as she talks of investing her money to secure her future.
“I’m pretty thick-skinned, because you have to be in this business,” she says. “But actually, underneath, I’m quite vulnerable. I can be hyper and loud, but there are times when I want to be left alone, when I just want to be at home with the dog and the cats.”
Today is her last on set for St Trinian’s and she’s sad that it’s coming to an end after six weeks of bonding with the other “girls” and the likes of Rupert Everett, who plays headmistress Miss Fritton, and David Tennant as the villainous Lord Pomfrey on the set of what the crew have called Hogwarts for pikeys. No longer will she have to dress up as the lads’ mag dream of a schoolgirl in hotpants and biker boots with a low-cut blouse and stripy tie.
“I am sad it’s over,” she says. “The girls have been lovely and we’ve bonded. I love them to bits. And Rupert has kept us all entertained.”
Next year, at some point, she’ll reunite with the rest of Girls Aloud and maybe there’ll be a solo album too. In the meantime, she hopes to find time to just “hang out” with Crane and her pets and go for long walks. She’ll put the shades on and meander across the fields and nobody will bother her. “And then I’m not Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud or whoever. I’m just me.”

She has been the ultimate pop princess for more than seven years, and as a member of Girls Aloud has played Wembley Stadium, released five platinum-certified studio albums and had 20 consecutive UK Top 10 singles.

Yet, Sarah Harding admits she yearns for a new challenge and this week celebrates her acting role in the feature film St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold.

"We have all got other stuff," says the 28-year-old blonde of her bandmates' activities. "We get bored. We have been doing it for seven years and we need something else to mix things up a bit. We have all gone out and done other things.

"It means we'll all be able to go back to the band again and enjoy it. Otherwise it does become like a job - albeit one I enjoy doing. But then it becomes a routine and I am not a routine girl."

Sarah has the reputation for working hard and partying even harder. But it is clear that getting the chance to act has given her a fresh energy. Indeed, Sarah admits that her relationship with DJ Tom Crane comes second to her career.

In the new St Trinian's film, she plays rock chick Roxy, who arrives at the bawdy school stepping out of Kaiser Chief Ricky Wilson's tour bus. In costume, she proudly sports an engagement ring. So is it hers?

"No, no, no," she laughs. "It's not my own ring. I am not engaged - not yet anyway. I've still got a few more years in me. I think career first, then love life.

"It's all going quite well for me but I think I want to concentrate on acting now. I am going down a different route and I like to throw myself fully into what I am doing.

"One of the girls on the set said it is hard to juggle a good work life, a good social life and a good love life. You can't have more than two at once, and it's true. If I am working long hours I don't see much of my boyfriend. He is always out so it is tough. But work is my focus for the next two years."
It is clear that acting is Sarah's new passion and there are no immediate plans for Girls Aloud to get back together.

"Cheryl's got The X Factor," she adds, "Nadine's in LA and got stuff over there, Nicola has got her make-up range and Kimberley has got her things too."

So can she see a time when Girls Aloud will split up? "I really don't know," says Sarah. "I think if we can take little breaks, it will keep it all healthy. I also think we have saturated the market slightly. We might wait until next summer before we do another album."

One thing Sarah is determined to avoid is touring with Girls Aloud in 2010. She admits that the demands on the band members were far greater this year than ever before.

"I don't think there will be another tour," she says. "I am toured out at the moment. I am absolutely knackered just thinking about it and not getting any younger. Also, the production gets much bigger every time. I am not the sort of person who likes learning dance routines. It's not my forte."

Working on St Trinian's seems to have agreed with Sarah better than touring.

"They were all really nice girls," she enthuses of her fellow cast members. "We had a lot of fun. It was a bit of a shock - I wasn't quite expecting how much work there was. But once you get into the swing of things you know what is happening."

It’s the premiere of the new St Trinian’s film and slinking her way down the red carpet is a stunning blonde in a jaw-dropping floor-length dress with sheer panels and a train that puddles around her ankles, like the world’s most glamorous oil slick.
There’s an aura of one of the old studio actresses there, some Betty Grable, or a bit of Jean Harlow.
From some angles, she looks a little like contemporary Hollywood royalty on Oscar night: there’s a definite hint of Gwen Stefani, even Scarlett Johansson.
But this is no stateside starlet, this is Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud — and, forget Cheryl finding her mojo, Sarah seems to have discovered her inner goddess with a glam look that is a million miles away from her previous incarnations.
Because, and we’ll be honest, we were a little bit worried about Ms Harding.
For a while, it seemed it was all about clubbing and Ibiza and falling out of bars, looking, ahem, tired and emotional.

SARAH HARDING has been ordered to do the unthinkable - stay home and live the quiet life.
The GIRLS ALOUD star has broken her foot in a mystery accident and will have to wear a cast over Christmas.
Docs have told her she can't go out partying and has to rest up and heal (or should that be heel?).
Amusingly, there is a dispute over what actually happened.
Her spokesman insists the injury occurred last Thursday, when someone slammed a car door on Sarah's foot.
But a source at The Mayfair Hotel, where she's staying in London, told me she bust it stumbling out of bed.
The hotel mole said: "She slipped on a rug after a heavy night out. Her ankle was really swollen and it went black because of the bruising."
However it happened, it's not good news for the former Bizarre Caner Of The Year who loves getting stuck in over the festive season.
She'll have to let the party come to her rather than the other way round. And there'll be no dancing, that's for sure.

We hear the singer turned actress bashed her tootsies the night before and was taking painkillers to ease the discomfort. So instead of continuing the party at her Kanaloa bar, it was straight back to her hotel for some water.

A pal tells us: "She was really disappointed - JLS and The Saturdays had gone back to her bar to help her celebrate, but she had to stand them up because she was in so much pain. She just wasn't up to it."

Talking to the Girls Aloud sizzler at A Sparkling Night With Nick, in aid of the The Stroke Association, she revealed that she has high hopes for 2010 and is looking forward to getting involved in a string of new challenges.
Sarah, 27, exclusively told us: “I absolutely love acting. I’m in secret talks about a massive film role abroad, although I really can’t say anything more.”
Despite constant probing from us about whether it would be a rom-com, a thriller or even a comedy, the sexpot kept schtum.

But she did reveal “big changes are on the way”.
There have been rumours she’s set to ditch to her vodka-guzzling ways, and we definitely saw a more sober side to her, as she rarely had a drink in her hand.
The party connoisseur is also going to lose her shiny pop image to turn rock chick, telling us: “I’m not really into pop music. It’s not what I listen to.”
And during her time away from the girl band she’s already had talks with alternative rockers the Kaiser Chiefs.
She said: “We’re both so busy we haven’t had chance to sit down properly yet. I’d definitely be up for doing something.”
The bash was held at the Swarovski Crystallized shop in London, where fellow singer Liz McClarnon, 28, took to the stage with a crystal-encrusted mic.
Sarah confided: “I’m really proud of the music I’ve done but it’d blow people away if they knew the kind of stuff I dance round my house to.”
We can just imagine Sarah inviting Cheryl round to rock out to death metal.

The Girls Aloud singer came over all lady-like as she turned out to the Women In Film And Television Awards in smart black dress.
Her display was a far cry from that of the night before, however, when she was pictured up to her usual partying antics during a night out in London's Soho.

The blonde singer, 28, had joined a group of friends for dinner and drinks at the Sanctum Soho Hotel.
But she managed to show off her lacy knickers in a transparent clingy black and white patterned shift dress.
Today was a different story, however, and Sarah made sure there was no risk of any blushes by wearing a rather more dignified outfit.

Cheryl's already reached No.1 with her 3 Words disc, Nadine's working on her own album across the pond, and now Sarah Harding's dishing up solo material. As well as starring as Roxy in the upcoming St Trinian's sequel, La Harding has recorded three exclusive tracks for the soundtrack. They've all been produced by longtime GA collaborators Xenomania and the first, 'Too Bad', is a chunky slab of electropop which boasts punchy lyrics and a booming singalong hook. Then there's 'Make It Easy', which, with its spooky verses and dazzling pop chorus, is as close to The Aloud as anything we're likely to hear in '09.The final track, a rollicking romp through Bowie's 'Boys Keep Swinging', brings it all back to the film's theme as the perfect school-yard anthem. The full soundtrack, which also includes tracks by Florence and the Machine, The Saturdays and Noisettes, is out on December 14. She’s usually known for her party-girl ways and revealing outfits, but Sarah Harding cut a more demure figure last night.
Looking elegant in a below-the-knee gold and black sparkly dress, the Girls Aloud singer dressed to impress for a winter ball.
With bright red lips and her blonde hair simply styled, the 28-year-old, who is now turning her hand to acting, is keen to tone down her wild image.

Harding was accompanied by band mate Nicola Roberts, who looked stunning in a full-length emerald gown for the event at The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair, London.
Nicola, 24, has recently launched her own make-up range Dainty Doll since Girls Aloud announced a break after their Out Of Control tour.

Towering in bright red heels, the petite singer looked sophisticated for the star-studded event.

They joined a host of other celebrities for night, which included a charity auction, to help raise money for terminally ill children.

The surprisingly brilliant 'Too Bad' is the best of three Sarah Harding solo tracks on the 'St Trinian's 2: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold' soundtrack.
It starts off like Julian Lennon's 'Too Late For Goodbyes' then lets rip into a massive arms-aloft Dannii Minogue-style chorus, has a big sort of rapped bit in the middle, and even makes time for a little nod towards Westworld's 'Sonic Boom Boy'.
If we may humbly suggest a placement for 'Too Bad' in your Girls Aloud playlists, slotting the track somewhere in between 'Close To Love' and 'Girl Overboard' would probably do nicely.

Girls Aloud’ star Sarah Harding insists that she’s unsure how much longer the group will stay together.
While the group is on a hiatus, Harding says she’s surprised how they have managed to remain popular since they were formed on a reality TV programme in 2002.
“We’ve grown up in the spotlight, we never thought we’d stick around,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling British TV talk show host Jonathan Ross.
“We’re simply taking a break now, we all felt it was time… We said about a year – but we’re going to see what happens,” she added.
The ‘Love Machine’ singer added that she now has her sights firmly set on acting, as it provides a fresh challenge for her.

We were getting on each other’s nerves

Sarah Harding rolls her eyes, crosses her arms, and gives us a look we imagine she perfected while playing a sulky schoolgirl on the set of her new film, St Trinian's 2. We've asked about her party-girl reputation. And that, she insists, is just not her these days. She's using a year off from Girls Aloud to get herself taken seriously - both as an actress, and as a person, too.

"People are so stuck in the past," she sighs. "Why is everyone obsessed with my drinking? I do have another side. But people don't pap me going to business meetings or cooking dinner. That caner tag, it's not me and I'm sick of it."

We're confused. At today's shoot a newspaper lies on the table, showing a picture of Sarah, 28, coming out of her favourite London haunt, Mahiki, with Marvin Humes from JLS. "It was a business meeting," she says adamantly. Because as well as being an actress - she's here to talk about her latest role as school rebel Roxy in the St Trinian's saga - Sarah is using the Girls Aloud sabbatical to discover her inner entrepreneur. Along with the owners of royal hangout Mahiki, she's invested money in London's hot new nightclub Kanaloa. An interesting move for a girl once dubbed the Camden Caner because of her penchant for the notoriously boozy north London social scene.

"The club wasn't a reason to go out and party, but a business opportunity," she explains. "There comes a time where you have to grow up. I don't enjoy going out as much as I used to. Maybe it's because I'm in a relationship now. When I was single I loved being around people, but when going out becomes monotonous, what's the point?"

These days, Sarah's happiest at her Buckinghamshire home playing Grand Theft Auto on her PS3 and cooking home-made meals. Food's a recurring theme in our conversation and Sarah's face falls when a huge dish of lasagne arrives for lunch - she's on a self-imposed carb ban today. Her last argument with Tom Crane, 30, her DJ boyfriend of two-and-a-half years, was about what 'baking blind' meant. And apparently her friends call her 'Mama Hardcore' - the party animal who makes her own pasta.

The Sarah we see today is a far cry from the wild girl we met 10 months ago when she graced one of our January covers. She arrives an hour late, dressed in a baggy T-shirt, leggings and Uggs. Her clothing choice is to hide the paunch she says she's developed since the band took a break. She lifts her top to prove her point.

"That's usually a six-pack," she moans, even though we can only see a barely there curve on her size-8 stomach. "It's the change in weather. Me and Tommy are all about comfort food. It's nice though, I've got a bit of insulation!"

Funny and self-effacing - so far, so Sarah. But after four hours (yes, that's four hours) in hair and make-up, Sarah has been transformed into a sexy screen siren. Her conversations are peppered with stories from the St Trinian's set - of Rupert Everett giving her acting advice, and practising lines with Colin Firth.

Sarah's career switch comes after almost seven years in Girls Aloud, the band that formed in 2002 after winning Popstars: The Rivals. Countless hits, six albums and umpteen awards followed, including a Best Single Brit in February for their song The Promise.
Even apart, they remain in high demand. Cheryl Cole, 26, is now the undisputed nation's sweetheart as an X Factor judge and solo artist, recently bagging a No1 single and album. Nadine Coyle, 24, lives in LA and will launch her solo material next year. Nicola Roberts, 24, is focusing on her beauty range, Dainty Doll, and making waves in the fashion world; while Kimberley Walsh, 27, is pursuing TV presenting offers as well as negotiating fashion and beauty deals. Sarah, cannily, is avoiding comparisons with her band mates by setting her sights on an acting career.

While she's written and recorded songs for the St Trinian's soundtrack, that's where her solo career begins and ends. "I'm not in a rush," she says. "Cheryl and Nadine are both doing the solo thing, but I want to take my time. I don't know how Cheryl squeezes it all in - I'd be having a breakdown by now."

What does she think of Cheryl's debut album, 3 Words? "I haven't heard it yet," she admits. "I heard the new single the other day, that's quite good. I'm really proud of her."
So with the girls going off in different directions, are cracks appearing in Girls Aloud's foundations?

"It was a relief to be apart for a while," she says. "As much as we love each other, we were getting on each other's nerves. All we did was moan about being knackered. There wasn't any gossip because we saw each other constantly. These days we've got more to talk about and we appreciate each other more."

But the differences between Sarah and the others remain.

"I'm quite loud at times," she grins. "The girls think I've got a potty mouth. I've worked in male-orientated jobs before and never had sisters so I've got quite a male sense of humour. Something I might find funny, Cheryl will go: 'That's gross!'"

"I've got loads of different sides," she adds. "I go into different personas, but that's why people always said I'd be good at acting. When I'm on stage I'm lairy, but when I come off, sometimes I just go straight home to bed."

Sarah admits it's hard for Tom to understand the person his girlfriend really is. "We're always having debates," she says. "We're either best friends or worst enemies. We have a tempestuous relationship. He thinks I'm bipolar and mental and calls me 'nut-nut'. We're quite feisty, but that makes us. If he was a doormat, he'd have been gone ages ago."

The couple split for a week last year, with Tom blaming work pressures. So we wonder where he fits into Sarah's new less-pressured life. As a resident DJ at Mahiki, he's immersed in the party scene that she says she's left behind. So does Sarah worry that, while she's at home cooking, Tom might be tempted by the DJ groupies? Cue Sarah the actress.

"I do play the jealous wife sometimes because I've got to make him feel secure," she says. "He's probably more jealous than I am, but every morning we wake up in the same bed. If we didn't, there would be more trust issues."

Three months back, Tom moved from his north London home into the Buckinghamshire pile Sarah bought last year. And, it seems, Sarah's got a pretty good catch. "Tommy's like a house husband," she says with a grin. "I came home the other day and he'd made a steak and ale pie!"

So, the question begs, is he The One? "I don't know," she says. "He's definitely a contender. I'm focusing on my career. I want to be able to stand on my own two feet before I can think about marriage. We're like a married couple anyway."

In more ways than one it seems. "We're too tired for sex," she jokes. "It's good because I have other things to do before babies. If I do that now, what do I have to look forward to?"
Sarah's manager's baby, Felix, has everyone at the shoot oohing and ahhing, and between takes she grabs cuddles. "I don't know how I'd cope with childbirth," she says, grimacing. "I'm petrified. And morning sickness scares me too. I'm also a good old-fashioned girl and I'd like to be married first."

Sarah's bitter rift with her dad John must make her somewhat cynical about family life. She disowned him at 18 and changed her surname from Hardman to Harding. Sarah doesn't want to talk about him today and her silence speaks volumes. "My friends are my family," she says. "I was lost for quite a long time - that's probably why I went off the rails a little bit."

Sarah left school at 16 without any GCSEs but with a huge dream of being a star, and she's now working hard to fulfil her acting ambitions. As well as elocution lessons, she's having sessions with an acting coach, determined to quash criticism she'll only win roles because of her profile.
As well as St Trinian's, Sarah was in BBC2's Freefall alongside Mamma Mia! hottie Dominic Cooper. Although she's the first to admit she's got a long way to go, she's already been up for a role against a big-name star.

"There was one part I went for, but I think they were punching below their weight when they asked me because they gave it to a Hollywood A-lister," she reveals. "I'm sworn to secrecy, but it was really good to just meet the casting director and the director is happy to keep me in mind. My agent thought it was good experience for me.

"My worst fear is forgetting my lines," she adds. "And I'm my own worst critic. I cringe every time I watch myself. I'm not saying I'm going to be the next Kate Winslet - that doesn't happen overnight - but I'd love to do a Charlize Theron in Monster. I like to do things that will surprise people.

"Some people expect you to fail - I hope to prove them wrong. People say: 'She's playing a schoolgirl and she's pushing 30', but it's a bit of fun. Rupert Everett is playing a woman! People take things too seriously."

But taking things seriously is exactly what Sarah's about these days. Actress, country bumpkin, nightclub owner - she's determined to succeed at all of them. But, for now, as our shoot ends, she's off to Guy Ritchie's pub, The Punch Bowl for another of those business meetings.
